Rise to Power
Mao was originally a member of the Chinese Communist Party(CCP). He was one of the founders of the Chinese Communist Party and established the Red Army. He adapted the ideas of VI Lenin, leader of the Russian revolution. He Worked as a political organizer in Shanghai. Mao's ideas appealed to the poor. He promised to end oppression by government officials and landlords. He wanted to industrialize China so it could be a leading world power. In the Long March in the late 1920’s, the Nationalists attacked the Communist Party and forced them to flee into Northern China. Out of 90,000 followers with him only 7,000 survived. The Nationalist party imposed a blockade and Mao evacuated the area and established a new stronghold in North west China. He joined forces with Nationalists to drive Japan out of China during WW2.
